Open, evergreen tree with fern-like, 2-pinnate, hairy leaves, 12cm long, each with 40-80 linear, glaucous to silvery

leaflets. Terminal racemes 10-20cm long of spherical fragrant yellow flower heads, 5mm across, are borne from winter to

 spring. Quite a large growing tree. Not particularly hardy so needs a sheltered site. From Australia.

Deciduous, spreading tree. Has lobed, bright green leaves that turn brilliant red and orange in autumn. Older branches are

striped green and white. Requires full sun and well drained soil. Introduced from Japan by Charles Sargent in 1882.

A small, broadly spreading tree, often flat topped. Dark pink flowers appear on top of the dark green feathery leaves in

late summer. Growing on a wall can improve flowering. Likes full sun. From Korea, introduced by Ernest Wilson in 1918.

A deciduous, conical shaped tree, useful for cold, wet areas with poor soils. Yellow-brown catkins are carried in late

winter and early spring, followed by oval, dark green leaves. Thrives best in a sunny aspect with moist soil but is a very

hardy tree good for cold wet conditions where others may fail.
